The head of Italy's Civil Protection agency, Franco Gabrielli, and members of the salvage team hugged each other in celebration, and sirens sounded in Giglio port after the cruise liner was successfully pulled upright.
"I think the whole team is proud of what they achieved. A lot of people said it couldn't be done," said Nick Sloane, the South African engineer coordinating the operation. "I feel good, it's time for a beer," he added.

RUSSIA in CLOSE-UP: Russian Rooks of Metal
Initially, it was planned to become the flying analogue to the celebrated AK-47 rifle – maximally simple and comfortable in usage. A specialized armoured assault aircraft, the Sukhoi Su-25, lovingly nicknamed ‘Grach’ (eng. ‘Rook’), was designed in the Soviet Union to provide close air support for the Soviet Ground Forces. The first prototype made its maiden flight on 22 February 1975. After testing, the aircraft went into series production in 1978. After more than 25 years in service which had seen a good lot of combats, the Su-25 has proved the reputation of being the most robust plane. The newest modifications boast an upgraded avionics and weapons suite, resulting in improved survivability and combat capability.

Is twitter an anti-racist tool?

Newly Crowned Miss America 2014, Nina Davuluri, didn’t even get to bask in her glory before having to defend her triumph. Haters took to twitter to slur her for allegedly being “Arab,” a “terrorist” and other ignorant abuses along the lines of “not being American enough.” Davuluri, who is of Indian descent, is the first woman of South Asian heritage to win Miss America. The #VoR along with blogger Ian Cromwell and media activist Dr. Kimberly Ellis discuss how social media can helpful in coordinating mass opinion against such racist speech.
OP-ED: “The massive interest that Putin’s article evoked and its appeal to the common public instead of sulky, nerdy pundits, mean that Vladimir #Putin told the Americans as much as they felt deep in their hearts. Naturally, some of them have been irked to hear the words they expected from their own president coming from a foreign leader (“Who does he think he is to write about us?”). On the contrary, others came to realize they are an integral part of the world community that is larger than the US Empire, proving that a different opinion can yet crack the shell of American propaganda.”
The op-ed written by Russian President Putin for The New York Times has made people take a different look on America’s ‘classic democracy’. #VoR’s contributing author analyses the case of #US despocracy and Russian democracy v2.0.
